Altos Computer Systems was founded in 1977 by David G. Jackson and Roger William Vass Sr. The company was named after Los Altos Hills, California where Jackson lived. They started out selling single board computers and grew to selling complete systems. Initially, Altos systems were powered by CP/M. Later, they were powered by Unix and Xenix. After a few years, Altos got into the server business, but competition from Sun Microsystems and Compaq causes loses. In the 1990s, Acer acquired Altos. Today, Acer uses Altos to sell servers, cloud computing, and AI.
