The Company
After doing some research on the Ohio Secretary of State website, I found two entries for CPAids. The first shows that Andrew H. Rosenberg of Computer Tax Service, Inc. paid $10 on October 2, 1978 to register the name CPAids. That trade name expired on September 28, 1983. The second entry shows that the CPAids name was renewed on November 25, 1983 for $20. Apparently, since the Rosenberg let the name expire for a month, he had to reregister the name. This time, the name registration expired on November 20, 1986.
As for Computer Tax Service, Inc., it was founded in August 16th of 1978. The company lasted for another decade until the corporation was cancelled at the end of 1988.
The Product
The June 1983 issue of Micro magazine had a write-up about the CPAids Tax Planner.
Tax Planner helps minimize personal tax liability through year round planning. The program is designed for tax practitioners, estate planners and attorneys, plus banks and trusts who do income tax projections for clients. The Planner helps build client data bases for use during subsequent tax seasons and in serving more clients. Individuals who do their own financial planning will also find the Planner helpful.
User-modifiable parameter files for each year permit long-range tax-planning options. Up to four client data files can be handled at once — the first to hold current data, additional files to reflect assumed data changes. Up to four different assumption data files for a given year and tax calculations for four different years can be programmed.
Tax Planner cost is $300.00 available from CPAids, 1061 Fraternity Circle Drive, Kent, OH 44240, (216) 678-9015.
The March 1985 issue of Creative Computing magazine also had a blurb about it:
A comprehensive, stand-alone program Tax Planner provides "what if" tax planning applications and allows the interfacing of tax planning with actual tax preparation. Designed for professional tax preparers, the program can compare alternate years or multiple assumptions per year. Tax tables are defined for four years, and four different assumptions can be compared on a yearly basis. Featuring a built-in calculator, the planner computes Schedule G, 4972 and 6251, with supplemental calculations for Schedule 2119, investment interest computation, and charitable contribution limits. A partnership input module is provided for developing effective tax strategies and financial forecasting. Professional printouts provide summary analysis and columnar comparisons. System: IBM PC, MS-DOS, and CP/M Price: $300 Manufacturer: CPAids, Inc. 1061 Fraternity Circle Kent, OH 44240 (216) 678-9015 Tax-Prep
