The Company

Dr. Charles Grant and Dr. Mark Greenberg met as students at UC Berkeley. They became interested in the growing microcomputer market and entered the business.

The duo started three companies: they sold IMSAI computers out of Greenberg’s garage as Kentucky Fried Computers, they sold custom disk controller boards as North Star, and they sold customized IMSAIs with their own BASIC and cassette interface as Applied Computer Technology. Kentucky Fried Computers expanded to include selling boards and kits from PolyMorphic, Vector Graphic, and Apple. All three were operated out of the same garage
