The Company

What we know as the Seiko Group Corporation was founded in 1917 as K. Hattori & Co., Ltd. after the founder Kintarō Hattori. Hattori created and sold the first Japanese-made wristwatch in 1913. In 1929, Seiko became the official watch supplier for Japan National Railways. During World War II, Seiko produced 1.2 million watches a year for the military.

At the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, Seiko watches were chosen as the official watch because of their accuracy. The company continued to innovate, releasing an E-Ink watch in 2006 and first the GPS solar watch in 2012.
