I actually used this feature for forms! (I honestly can't recall if it was Quark or a similar program). Way before PDF all kinds of forms wanted to be typed (or hand print, but typing was more "professional"). I'm sure there were also a few old typewriter die hards that missed that connection between keystroke and print head.
